Yuni – Crochet Patterns

Everything you need, nothing in the way.

A calm crochet companion. Yuni writes patterns you can check row by row, keeps count while your hands are busy, and keeps your projects on your own device.

Yuni, a young woman with long, wild dark curls, warm brown skin, small gold hoop earrings, a cream turtleneck and an olive jacket, smiling softly. One eye is grey-green, the other honey-brown.

Yuni's eyes: one soft grey-green, one honey-brown.

Meet Yuni, two ways

Yuni keeps you company while you crochet. Pick the look you like: the realistic Yuni or Mini Yuni, her small round mascot self. Both blink, breathe and react, and both keep her two eye colours.

Mini Yuni

A cheerful little mascot with bouncy curls. She waves hello, cheers when you finish a row, and gets sleepy late at night.

What Yuni helps with

These are the parts of the app that are built and being tested right now.

Patterns you can check

Yuni builds simple patterns from clear rules. Every row shows whether its stitch count adds up, and explains why if it doesn't.

Counting, hands-free

Stitch and row counters with undo. Tap anywhere, use a key or a page turner, or say "undo" to step back one stitch.

Test swatch first

Each pattern gives you a gauge. Type in what you measured and Yuni tells you whether it matches or to try another hook size.

US or UK terms

Switch between US and UK stitch names, with standard chart symbols alongside the written rows.

Stays where you left off

The current row is highlighted in small chunks, and the screen stays awake while a project is open.

Easy on the eyes

Large buttons, a text size slider up to 200%, and calm day and night themes.

Make Yuni yours

Yuni's wild curls are always hers, but you can change a few small things.

  • Round gold glassesSwitch them on or off.
  • Work hairWhen you crochet together, Yuni ties her curls up in a messy bun or a side ponytail, picked at random.
  • Little detailsA small beauty spot, light freckles and a soft blush, each with its own switch.

These looks come from Yuni's character files, which are still being finished. The options are on their way into the app.

How close Yuni is

Each line is a real milestone. Done means it is already in the build. The yarn ball fills by the done count divided by the total. The percentage is that same figure, rounded to the nearest whole number.

Help build Yuni School

Yuni School is the lesson side of the project: how to hold the yarn, how a row is counted, how a pattern is checked. The first goal is 3,000 EUR. Donations are not open on this page, so the counter is the real amount.

Help Yuni learn: share your crochet footage

Record a top-down video of your hands crocheting. Clear overhead clips are how Yuni can learn hand guides.

  • Camera straight above the hands
  • Yarn, both hands and the hook clearly visible
  • Good even light, plain contrasting background
  • Slow, deliberate movements
  • One stitch type per clip, 10–60 s

Drag and drop a video here, or choose a file.

Nothing is uploaded or stored yet. This page has nowhere to send a file.

Footage will only be used to teach Yuni hand guides, with your permission.

    Privacy and honesty

AI transparency: Yuni is an AI companion. Patterns, replies and her voice are generated by AI — always double-check stitch counts.

Your work stays on your device

Your patterns and photos stay on this device. Yuni does not use them to train anything unless you explicitly agree. You can download a backup file at any time.

    AI is always labelled

Generated patterns are marked "Generated with Yuni AI". Previews are drawings of the stitch math, never fake photos of a finished piece.

    Mistakes are easy to report

Spot a problem in a row? Leave a note on that row. It is saved in your browser, not sent anywhere.

    Tested by a human?

Every pattern shows whether it is untested, tested by you, or tested by the community. No made-up star ratings.

    Where Yuni is now

Yuni is still being built and tested. There's no release date yet, and nothing to buy. This page will be updated when you can try her.
